OUR WHY:
The world population is continuing to get older. Aging is the greatest risk factor for the majority of chronic diseases, and chronic diseases account for most of the morbidity and health care expenditures in developed nations. Now more than ever, research and the exchange of ideas are needed to deepen our knowledge of aging. This is why we formed an alliance.
The Alliance for Healthy Aging was co-founded in 2009 by the Mayo Clinic Robert and Arlene Kogod Center on Aging (USA) and several Dutch research institutions, including the University Medical Center Groningen, the University of Groningen, the Noaber Foundation (Lunteren) and Vita Valley (Ede).
In 2015, Newcastle University Institute for Ageing (United Kingdom) joined the Alliance. The network expanded further in 2019 with the addition of the University of Minnesota’s Masonic Institute on the Biology of Aging and Metabolism (USA) and the University of Copenhagen’s Center for Healthy Aging (Denmark).
In 2023, the Cologne Cluster of Excellence on Aging and Aging-Associated Diseases at the University of Cologne (Germany) joined the Alliance for Healthy Aging.
